I recently posted information concerning the CAMBA/IMBA relationship to keep members informed of this important change that occurred towards the end of 2012. It’s been a long time coming! This can be found under the menu “About” and then “CAMBA/IMBA Relationship” or click here.

Trails United E-Newsletter from Cleveland Metroparks

The Cleveland Metroparks(CMP) is embarking on a long term effort called Trails United to repair, rehabilitate and redesign our trails to protect natural resources and enhance public experience and they are asking for trail users and sponsors to participate over the next several years. Open to all trail users, CAMBA/IMBA working together are poised to make an impact for mountain biking with a show of volunteer strength we can generate from membership located in the Cleveland area.  As a reminder, we will be having several representatives from CMP at our meeting this week to discuss details of the volunteer program.

To further stay informed with the Trails United progress, you can sign up to receive the e-newsletter that is generated periodically by CAMBA member and CMP employee Nancy Desmond. The most recent newsletter can be found here, so click the link at the left of the page to sign up for automatic delivery to your email. In this issue you will find several entries of interest to mountain bikers and there can more as our success continues!

WB Trail Day, Saturday Feb 23rd

We had a great turnout last Saturday at the West Branch trail day. It appears that everyone suffered from cabin fever and needed to get out on the trail, even if it was to dig in the dirt. And dig we did! Under the supervision of Tim Rhodes, we re-routed a rooty, sorta off camber section of trail. I was glad to see it go. Tim promises that he won’t underestimate the number of tools needed next time.

Food was provided last time by the good folks from the Bistro on Main located in Kent and we appreciate their kindness. Aaron, is a mtb racer and proprietor of the restaurant. Website is here. Please visit on your next night out and you won’t be disappointed! We hope to see them at a future trail day for sure!

Let’s keep the momentum ball rolling! We’ve scheduled another West Branch trail day on Saturday, 23rd and this time we’d like everyone to meet us at the other end of Cable Line Road. You can drive and park at this spot by going east on Hughes Road, the turning right (north) onto Porter Road. Keep driving until you see us at the end of Porter. As always, lunch will be provided.

IMBA Weekend at Ray’s Indoor Bike Park

Ray’s MTB Park is pulling through for us again with an IMBA sponsored event held over the weekend of Saturday, January 19-21, 2013. Can you believe the crazy guys at Ray’s? The event will run Saturday-Monday in both Milwaukee and Cleveland. There will be an entire weekend of fun planned. Demos, Raffles, Entertainment and more. IMBA Members get a 2 day weekend pass for the price of 1 and other special discounts and incentives.

Our transition to chapter status is nearly complete, but if you are not currently a CAMBA/IMBA member you can join up at the event. This is going to be a big event for CAMBA and we need our local membership to respond by attending and volunteering to help with various activities. There will be special incentives for volunteers and this is your opportunity to help without getting your hands dirty like trail days! If you are interested, please send me an email at president@camba.us. Andy Williamson, our IMBA Regional Director,  is spending a lot of time coordinating this event so lets show our appreciation and get a solid group of volunteers and make it truly a joint effort.

FREE CAMBA Preview Night at Ray’s Oct 4th

Yes, it’s time to ride Ray’s again! Ray’s MTB park will be opening soon and Ray wants to make sure that CAMBA members ride and approve of the changes he’s made over the summer. CAMBA members will get in FREE to ride two days before opening day. Gotta say it, Ray’s is the best thing that ever happened to Cleveland, IMO of course!

We are planning to have pizza, prizes so please come and support the club! Remember, this is a membership drive for CAMBA, so please invite a friend to join and enjoy a free night at Ray’s. Just as before if you’re a CAMBA member you get to ride the park at no charge and,  as in years past, the free night is also available to any member of any OMBA chapter club (COMBO, CORA, MVMBA, AOA, MOMBC).

Date: Thursday, October 4th

Time: 6pm – 10pm
Where: Ray’s MTB
Here are some tips for preparing for a ride at Ray’s

If you’re not a paid CAMBA/OMBA member, you still have a few options.
    • *Sign up now through the CAMBA/OMBA website – PLEASE PRINT YOUR RECEIPT AND BRING IT WITH YOU
  • We’ll be taking memberships at the door
  • Buy a season pass from Ray’s and he’ll contribute $10 toward your CAMBA membership. Then we’ll let you in to ride!

OMBC Race #6 at West Branch – Aug 12th

Just another reminder that the race is being held this weekend. This is also an opportunity for CAMBA members to volunteer and help support the cause of mtn bike racing in NE Ohio and benefit our club. Ryan O’Dell, who runs the OMBC race series, donates a percentage of the proceeds directly to CAMBA and more racers means more cash for our club. Thanks Ryan!

Assisting in making the race a success is simple: we setup the course route the day before and on race day we are positioned at several different areas of the course to make sure riders get through safely. That’s it! No pressure and you are helping CAMBA.

Let me know if you can help by sending me an email at president@camba.us.

CAMBA Monthly Meeting, July 23rd @ 6:30pm

CAMBA will be meeting to discuss the transition of our organization into the IMBA Chapter program. CAMBA leadership views this change as a positive direction for our club as we will be tied more closely into the larger effort to build trails with a national organization. Over the past few months, we’ve also had the opportunity to interact with Andy Williamson(local IMBA director) who has made himself available for meetings and discussions concerning the parks mtb trail activities. His input and presence has been making an impact and becoming a chapter will solidify the relationship through our membership support.

This is a big step and the meeting is your opportunity to have your voice heard and learn more of the details. Of course, as we move through this transition, CAMBA leadership will be communicating details with our membership.  The meeting location is:

Location:5755 Granger Road
Independence, Ohio

Please send me an email if you have any questions at president@camba.us.
