Cleveland Metroparks parkway alert line (PAL)

Good news! The Cleveland Metroparks have added trail closings for Royalview to their parkway alert line. If you are planning to head over to Royalview for a ride and are not sure if the trail is open or closed you can now call 440-331-5963 to see if the trail is closed. The alert line is updated every evening and will only mention if the trail is closed so if the weather is good you can assume the trail is open. But if its raining outside use common sense. The trail will be closed.

Trail Maintenance help is needed!

Please check this new PAGE  on how to contribute something back to the trails we all love to ride!

Royalview Grand Opening – Reminder!

CAMBA members have waited a long time for this and the day is fast approaching…..so don’t forget!;  Cleveland Metroparks is opening  9+ miles of mountain bike/hike trail in Mill Stream Run Reservation in Strongsville.  Coupled with CMP and SCA efforts, CAMBA volunteers donated over 1,800 hours of labor to help complete this incredible trail! (all in less than 8 months??)

So Friday, June 15:  Cleveland Metroparks will officially open the Royalview Trails at 2 p.m. with a media event and short presentation.  CAMBA members are encouraged to attend and ride after the ceremony (weather & trail-condition permitting!!).

Then, Sunday June 17:  Join us for the public event celebrating the trail with group rides, beginner clinics, food and music.  11 a.m.- 5 p.m.

In case of foul trail conditions and/or bad weather, group rides will be cancelled until the trails dry out….but other events on Sunday will continue!
In the meantime, send an e-mail if you have any questions (trails ‘at’ camba.us).

Royalview Grand Opening!…..Sunday, June 17th

Mark your calendars……….barring catastrophic weather, the official and anxiously-awaited grand opening for Royalview is Sunday, June 17th.  Yes, yes……we know it’s Father’s Day….but what better way to celebrate the day than with ol’ dad (or Old Grandad?) on some SWEET new singletrack??!!!?  Cleveland Metroparks has some grand plans for the day, with many local shops showing up, food, beverages, group rides, beginner clinics……way big festival atmosphere that our MTB community needs around here!  Festivities officially kick off at 11AM, and run until 4PM……so plot your Father’s Day activities carefully.

Metroparks staff does need some volunteer help with setup and breakdown…..if you’d like to help, please send an e-mail to Nancy Desmond;  nd ‘at’ clevelandmetroparks.com.  In the meantime, adjust your calendar so you don’t miss out, and come help us celebrate 10 new miles of primo NEW singletrack in the Mill Stream Run Reservation!  This project is a wonderful celebration of collaborative efforts between Cleveland Metroparks, Student Conservation Association, and CAMBA!  BIG HUGE thanks to everyone (especially volunteers) who helped this project meet the June 17th opening date!

If you plan to ride, please be prepared for some parking challenges;  best bet is to park along the Parkway (closer to 82 or 130th), and just ride in.  If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail (trails ‘at’ camba.us).

Mini-Trail Day at West Branch this Sunday (5/6)!

With some decent conditions to help us out this spring, we’re getting out early to prep and inspect West Branch for a possible earlier-than-usual opening (maybe next week).  But we’ll need some help this Sunday to inspect a few miles of trail for conditions and clean-up, and also to re-route some trail that’s falling into the lake (again?).

We’ll meet at the boat parking lot (right in front of the trailhead) at 9AM…..but if you can’t make it then, just head down Cable Line Rd and look for one of the park Gators (we’ll be along the lakeside trail all morning).

Send me an e-mail if you have any questions (trails ‘at’ camba.us)

Quail Hollow Trail Day – Saturday, 4/28

Per Tim Dogg….Trail day is planned at Quail Hollow State Park (Hartville) on Saturday, April 28th at 9AM .   As many are aware, we put in a 250 foot section of boardwalk in the main field a few years ago. This year we are planning to fix the back field using the same method…but covering 330 feet (boardwalk).  To do this, we need your help.

Everyone is welcome to come.   We will be meeting in a gravel parking lot that is farther down the road from the trailhead (check this LINK).  If you can’t make it out at 9AM, no problem….just head out to the field to find us!

To get there follow the road past the trailhead and hang a right where the road splits. When you get to the top of the hill, the parking lot will be on your right.

As always, lunch will be provided.  Feel free to bring a cordless drill if you have one.  Gloves and water are strongly encouraged.

This is a massive project and we need as much help as we can get!

4/14 Royalview Trail Day Postponed

Because of the incredible efforts by many dedicated trailbuilding volunteers this spring, this Saturday’s trail day will be postponed until further projects are available later in May (including a lot of trail reclamation).  Meanwhile, the park will continue working on big projects to help connect the trail…including bridging, armoring, and boarwalks.

Check this LINK  for more info on remaining dates, including an upcoming day at West Branch on Earth Day (4/21).  So stay tuned to the site for future trail days, especially as we get closer to the June 17th opening date at Royalview!

Send me an e-mail if you have any questions (trails ‘at’ camba.us)

New Royalview Trail Message

After many enquiries about whether Royalview was open for riding now, Cleveland Metroparks recently decided to keep the trail closed until it’s complete in early June.  Help them reach that goal by not riding Royalview while they finish trails and install bridges, directional signs and maps.

“Trail Closed” signs will be posted and Rangers will enforce the closure until the grand opening celebration which is still scheduled for June 17th.

Thanks for your cooperation and please help spread the word!

Reminder: More Trail Day Madness at Royalview this Saturday! (3/31)

Don’t forget that we’ll be out at Royalview again this Saturday, with hopes to make a big dent in the remaining half mile of trail….but we still need your help!

We’ll meet at the lower trailhead at 9AM (look for the CAMBA trailer), but like we’ve said before;  no problem if you can’t make it out at 9….just come out whenever you can, for as long as you can…..all help is needed and welcome!  Send me an e-mail if you have questions about where, when, how (trails ‘at’ camba.us).  Hope you can make it out!

Progress in Strongsville

CAMBA volunteers continued to make mountain bike trails a reality in the Cleveland Metroparks on Sunday, March 25.

Only 2-3 volunteer trailbuilding days left before it’s done.  The metroparks is doing its’ part with their own employees and material.  Hope to see everyone out to help on Saturday March 31st.
