Cleveland Metroparks is celebrating a hugely successful year at Royalview Trails for mountain bikers, runners and hikers! On Sunday, June 2nd, there will be a group ride at Royalview, and then post-ride celebration at Fathead’s Brewery and Tasting Room in Middleburg Hts.
In honor of all the new-trail success stories, Matt Cole, brew master at Fathead’s and avid mountain biker, has created a beer called Trail Head Pale Ale. All summer, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this product will go the Cleveland Metroparks Trails Fund. Matt will tap the first keg at the Fathead’s party and give it away free. He’s also working on getting raffle donations to make extra money for the Fund.

Ray’s MTB Park is pulling through for us again with an IMBA sponsored event held over the weekend of Saturday, January 19-21, 2013. Can you believe the crazy guys at Ray’s? The event will run Saturday-Monday in both Milwaukee and Cleveland. There will be an entire weekend of fun planned. Demos, Raffles, Entertainment and more. IMBA Members get a 2 day weekend pass for the price of 1 and other special discounts and incentives.
Our transition to chapter status is nearly complete, but if you are not currently a CAMBA/IMBA member you can join up at the event. This is going to be a big event for CAMBA and we need our local membership to respond by attending and volunteering to help with various activities. There will be special incentives for volunteers and this is your opportunity to help without getting your hands dirty like trail days! If you are interested, please send me an email at president@camba.us. Andy Williamson, our IMBA Regional Director, is spending a lot of time coordinating this event so lets show our appreciation and get a solid group of volunteers and make it truly a joint effort.

Yes, it’s time to ride Ray’s again! Ray’s MTB park will be opening soon and Ray wants to make sure that CAMBA members ride and approve of the changes he’s made over the summer. CAMBA members will get in FREE to ride two days before opening day. Gotta say it, Ray’s is the best thing that ever happened to Cleveland, IMO of course!
We are planning to have pizza, prizes so please come and support the club! Remember, this is a membership drive for CAMBA, so please invite a friend to join and enjoy a free night at Ray’s. Just as before if you’re a CAMBA member you get to ride the park at no charge and, as in years past, the free night is also available to any member of any OMBA chapter club (COMBO, CORA, MVMBA, AOA, MOMBC).
Date: Thursday, October 4th
Time: 6pm – 10pm
Where: Ray’s MTB
Here are some tips for preparing for a ride at Ray’s
Join CAMBA for our Fall trip to Lake Hope State Park during the weekend of September 28-30. Lake Hope is located outside of Athens, OH and is home to some of the best singletrack in Ohio. This trail is suitable for most abilities, so don’t be shy!
As always we’ll ride in groups of varying experience and skill levels led by CAMBA leaders. The hard core crowd can easily get in 30+ miles, while beginners can ride as little as a few miles since there are plenty of points to bail out and head back to camp. CAMBA has reserved the group campsite #118 (same as last year) for Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29. Some people will arrive Friday night and others Saturday morning. Camping is free.
Date: Fri. Sept. 28 – Sun. Sept. 30
Schedule:
-Saturday at 11 AM sharp we leave for the group ride. Distances will vary by ability.
-6-8 PM Dinner at the campground. BYO food and drink.
-8PM-??? Hanging out by the fire
-9 AM Sunday another group ride!
What to bring:
-Tent and camping gear. It’s normally pretty chilly at night, so pack accordingly.
-Bring your own food and drink for dinner. There will be some grills available, bring your own charcoal
-Warm riding clothes and rain gear. Weather may be chilly and/or wet.
-Lots of food and water for the trail.
-Always be prepared for epic rides: extra tubes, mini-pump, tools, etc.
Directions: Take Interstate 71 South to Columbus. When you reach the first intersection of the 270 outerbelt, take it east. Continue on 270, which will head south, until you reach Route 33. Take Route 33 east to Nelsonville and State Route 278. Take 278 South to Lake Hope State Park. (Driving time approximately 3.5-4.0 hours) Note: there are other ways (e.g. I-77 to SR 50) of getting to Lake Hope that may be faster, depending on traffic around Columbus. Consult your favorite electronic mapping device for alternatives.
We’re going to be in the campground at a group site. The campground connects to the trails. We are at campsite numbers 114. This is in the main campground, so just follow the signs. If heading South on 278, take the first right as you see the sign announcing Lake Hope State Park. You should pass a campground office not long after turning off 278.
Go to http://www.lakehopestatepark.com for a map of the park.
