Annual Trail Closure – West Branch and Lake Milton State Parks

Reminder about the annual trail closure at West Branch State Park (MTB trails only).  This policy takes effect around the first of March every year for all riders/runners/hikers, since everyone can have the same impact when trail conditions are wet and muddy.  The target for re-opening is usually around the 3rd weekend in May, but that can slide depending on soil conditions and weather.  Either way, we’ll work closely with ODNR park mgnt to make the right call on timing of the opening. Please help share this info, especially with folks who are not in-the-know about responsible trail use, and how important it is to respect our local trails during this sloppy time of the year.  This is especially important every year now, since we keep having very mild winter seasons – where the tread doesn’t freeze thoroughly. Remember that West Branch park rangers do take offenses seriously and will enforce this trail closure policy, which can include citations ($150!), and possibly impounding your ride!  So ride smart and responsibly….and always stay tuned to our spring posts on trail status and openings (FB or this site).
Keep in mind that many of our local trails are built and maintained by local volunteers….people just like you!  So let’s do our best to preserve what we have for future riding seasons — and generations.  Ping me with any questions about our annual seasonal trail closure (trails ‘at’ camba.us).
